The British Columbia Coast – Part II: Storm Shelter
On another sailing trip aboard the Ocean Light II, a severe storm warning had us take refuge in the small central coast town of Shearwater. For me, it was a double blessing; I would be safe from the storm, and I would be creatively absorbed with photographic possibility.
For two days, between rain squalls and bursts of dramatic light, I photographed in a ships’ drydock. It was filled with old boats in various states of disrepair. I was in heaven!
I was photographing an exciting and unfamiliar world; I was surrounded by seafaring stories. I could only imagine the histories of each ship.
Nautical abstract.
A long rope with a deep history.
Elements of art; tones, colours, lines, shapes, and textures.
Layers of peeling paint.
The threat of being at sea in a storm had surprisingly turned into one of my most memorable photographic experiences; an adventure I will never forget.
