The British Columbia Coast –Part III: Storm Shelter
This visual narrative is a continuation of #’s 047 and 048 published on October 27th and November 3rd. It’s the continuing story of being storm bound in the small-town port of Shearwater on the central coast. For me it was a blessing; I would avoid a storm at sea and I would find myself in a photographer’s paradise – a drydock for old ships.

Ship’s Hull.
Ship’s hull and propeller.
This was a favourite photograph of mine from which Rita and I made a large print to exhibit in our gallery. I never thought it would sell up here on the central plateau, far from the coast and the Salish Sea, but I knew I would always enjoy looking at it.
One day, unexpectedly, a lady entered the gallery, walked directly to the print, and requested to purchase it. Upon conversation, she told me she was a Master Mariner who had captained every type of passenger ship and freighter in every ocean on the planet.
One of the wonderful rewards of being an artist, of any media, is when the emotional resonance of the artist connects with the emotional resonance of the viewer. In this case, the powerful attraction I had while seeing and photographing this old historic propeller was equally shared with a master mariner.
