Continuing my walk , the contrast I was looking at yesterday (previous blog post), also revealed lines. Lines can be curved, straight, diagonal, or oblique, and each evokes a different emotional response. Light also plays a role in our response; direct light creates a different feeling than diffuse light. You can check this out by being aware of your response to the following two images.
direct light & high contrast
Diffuse light & less contrast creates a different mood
If I had added contrast to the second image during the editing process, I would have ruined the mood of the image. This is something to be aware of when editing.
Being aware of my responses to light and line is one of the reasons why I get so excited when photographing in the field.

The first one had me “running” and the second one had me “walking”
Now that’s an emotional response! How cool is that!!
I was skiing or sliding. Then I hit the tree!
Don’t hurt yourself!!
Really beautiful.
Thanks Kathy!
Your vertical lines with several similar tones remind me of the late work of U S abstract expressionist Morris Louis., the “Stripes”. Guido Molinari of Montreal also produced similar work . Very interesting .
Thanks Pierre. I looked them up and will take note of their work. Very interesting. I really enjoy the abstract. Chris
