If you look over my images of this entire trip, you will notice how the light and the land lent itself to the simplest of compositions. As a landscape photographer, I was in heaven. This photograph is not about snow flakes, it’s about 3 main shapes, 4 if you include the band of colour. When I turned my head to the left and saw this scene, I immediately saw 3 shapes and a complete range of tonal contrast; from pure white to pure black. The touch of colour was a bonus. I was so excited when I saw this scene because I could visualize the final outcome. When composing, I made sure the tallest tree was right of centre and the least interesting shape (the bottom white shape) was small. Click. There you are. A sub-boreal forest in a winter snow storm. Enjoy!
