I went out to the grasslands the other day to photograph balsamroot but I was too late. They were past their prime. So instead of returning home that evening, I crawled into the back of my truck to spend the night. What a difference from the rainforest where I had been photographing previously. I could smell the sage, hear the birds, and see the huge star filled sky.
I made some night time images amidst the bats which seemed curious at what I was doing. Then after a short sleep I awoke before dawn and saw the crescent moon rising in the eastern sky. I jumped up, grabbed my tripod and made this image. It felt expansive.
