This overview in Churn Creek Protected Area reveals quintessential grasslands. Here we see the open, rolling hills, benches and terracettes formed by the action of successive glaciations. Cutting through them are the characteristic steep canyon cliffs, descending to Churn Creek below.
Bighorn sheep seek shelter within these walls but ascend to the open grass to forage. For humans, the open benches are wonderful places to hike, especially in the golden evening light of autumn.
