Through the Trees

19: Through the Trees

I have walked through this lodgepole pine forest well over 100 times . . .it's my favorite forest. The layout and repetition of vertical tree trunks has always made me think that tree planters designed and then planted this forest. In fact, lodgepole is the pioneering specie that grows naturally after a forest fire. In order to capture the sense of linearity and the strength of repeating vertical forms, I made this image by taking eight exposures without advancing the film. For me, this abstraction is powerfully expressive of how I felt that day in the forest.
