One evening during the fall season, the temperature dropped and the Coast Mountains were covered with their first blanket of snow. Early the next morning a delicate mist rose off the still, warmer waters of the Bella Coola River. The salmon were running and there were grizzly bears all around me as I photographed. Half an hour after I made this image the tranquille start to my day was shattered. I was charged by a grizzly sow from eight meters. The only reason I am able to show you this image is that she jammed on her breaks one meter in front of me, turned, and ran after her two cubs.
